Alwyn Faber Scholfield (1884-1969) was Cambridge University Librarian, 1923-1949. He attended Eton before coming to King's College, Cambridge, in 1903, where he gained a second in both parts of the Classical Tripos. After his degree he travelled abroad and taught for a year at Eton. From 1911-1912 he worked in Cambridge University Library on Classical and early printed books. Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872), antiquary and bibliophile, was born at Manchester on 2 July 1792, and attended Rugby and University College, Oxford.
